CUMMING, Ga. — Friends Cumming Grill, at 506 Lakeland Plaza in Cumming, received a U grade with a score of 42 in a routine food-service inspection conducted Aug. 4, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health inspection record.

Georgia’s inspection system defines a U grade as a score of 69 or below. The restaurant’s previous listed inspection score was 98, an A grade, on Sept. 11, 2025.

The inspection record lists violations involving food protection and storage, sanitation, cooking and cold-holding temperatures, date marking, cooling, chemical storage, facility maintenance, and pest control. Among the observations documented by the inspector were food held above required cold temperatures, products without appropriate date marking, inadequate sanitizer concentrations, missing sanitizer test strips, missing ceiling tiles, food residue and debris under equipment, and one live roach observed near the dish machine.

The report states that some issues were corrected on site, including relocating food, discarding products, remaking sanitizer, and removing or washing affected items. It also says the facility voluntarily closed until it could comply with the Georgia Food Code and required third-party in-person employee training before reinspection.

Forsyth Daily Brief called the restaurant on Aug. 12, and a staff member confirmed that it is open and serving customers. That phone confirmation is separate from the Aug. 4 inspection record; the record itself says the facility voluntarily closed pending compliance and reinspection. We did not independently verify whether a later inspection has been posted.

Readers should check the Georgia Department of Public Health record for subsequent updates before making plans.
